Young people 'need to demonstrate skills' to get a job
Young job candidates who may have used online training courses should demonstrate their transferable skills and give a little bit extra to get work and keep it, according to an education expert for young people.
With more candidates for jobs now possessing a degree as standard, having a qualification or experience that demonstrates transferable skills on a CV makes a contender for a position stand out from the crowd, suggested Denise Taylor, career psychologist with amazingpeople.co.uk.
Skills and qualifications now offered through many online learning providers could provide just one route to achieving this.
"What sort of transferable skills have [candidates] got, because there's certain things that every organisation wants," said Ms Taylor.
She added that young people should "be willing to suggest things in many cases and certainly to do that little bit more" to sustain their employment.
Ms Taylor's comments follow similar suggestions from Steve Burford, founder of wealthystudent.co.uk, who recently claimed that young people should seek out alternatives to university.
