The NHS: Information Governance
Challenge:
The NHS is Europe's largest employer and as such the training and education challenge is great. Couple this to the need to dramatically improve the adoption of Information Governance best practise at all levels within the service, then you begin to see the enormity of the task of getting everyone to develop even a basic understanding. Delivery in a traditional route would be costly and would be a logistical nightmare. In June 03, Virtual college brought together 7 forwarded thing NHS organisations and created TIGER, which is an online solution to help accelerate information governance training within the NHS. Solution:
The heart of the TIGER system is Virtual College’s Training Management System (TMS) which provides each learner with their own online training record. Once a learner has successfully completed a learning module then they can return to their training record and undertake the online assessment. This can include multiple choice, drag and drop, hot spot and short answer questions. With the exception of short answer questions, all are marked instantaneously and the learner’s training record is updated with every assessment taken. The questions are randomly drawn from a databank to ensure variety and integrity is maintained. Each organisation can review performance on either an individual or cohort basis, with appropriate progress reports being generated. Tutors can be assigned to the modules and can give feedback on short answer and portfolio questions, and provide learner feedback where necessary. Online assessment ensures that the training loop is closed and can be used for knowledge auditing on a regular basis. On completion candidates are given a TIGER certificate to recognise their achievement.
