Lantra: Online Learning for sector skills
|
Challenge:
As the land-based Sector Skills Council, Lantra are responsible
for developing skills in many industries including farming,
environmental conservation and food supply chains. Due to the
diverse geographic nature of its customer base traditional,
face to face delivery routes are often prohibitive due to
costs and difficulties bringing together learners for group
sessions. Lantra have always been at the forefront of new
learning techniques and identified.e-learning as an ideal
solution providing a cost effective delivery route. which
has recently been enhanced with the purchase of a Training
Management System licence.
Solution:
After extensive trials, Lantra purchased a license for the
Virtual College Training Management System. The Lantra team
have structured the TMS with a wide range of courses and modules
which includes subjects such as deer management, nitrate vulnerable
zones and best farming practises. The courses have been developed
in Word and Flash, then simply up-loaded in to the TMS. The
courses are then supplemented with a number of different online
assessment types such as short answer, multiple choice and
portfolio questions.
Benefits:
Feedback from users has been very positive and the ability to
provide learning in an any time, any place mode, provides a
great delivery route. The online tracking and monitoring greatly
assists the progression of learners. The online assessment system
provides instantaneous feedback to both learners and tutors,
enabling problem areas to be quickly addressed.
