Overview

Urinary catheterisation is an intervention performed by health care workers to enable emptying of the bladder, or instillation of a solution / medication, by insertion of a catheter. Although it is a common procedure, it carries many risks and is a significant cause of healthcare acquired infections.

Having completed this e-learning course, learners will understand what the Management of Urinary Catheterisation for Adults involves and they should also be able to apply the principles learnt in this course into practice.

This course has been developed in partnership with experts from Bradford and Airedale Teaching PCT.

This module supports the Skills for Health suite of competencies for continence - catheterisation.

This e-learning module is accredited by the Royal College of Nursing Accreditation Unit as at November 2009

Certification

On completion of this course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate.

Duration

Approximately 2 - 3 hours. The length of time taken depends entirely on how quickly you can study and absorb the material. You can proceed as quickly or slowly as you like, and there is no limit on how long you can take to do the course.

This module is targeted primarily at healthcare workers in NHS organisations, though the information is applicable to anyone working in the healthcare sector with responsibilities for catheterisation.
