Overview - Working in Partnership with Parents

This is a Level 3 course designed to further the knowledge and skills required when working in partnership with parents and carers in early years settings

The course focuses on the importance of developing and maintaining good relationships with parents and on how practitioners can develop skills in working in this area. It highlights the importance of understanding the primary role which parents play in their child's learning and ways in which those working with young children can maximise the important relationship between parent and practitioners.

Having completed the course learners will be able to explain why it is important to develop and maintain good relationships with parents and carers and how this can be achieved. They will also be in a position to promote best practice when sharing information with parents and carers about their children.

Objectives

On completion of this module learners will:

  • Understand the importance of developing and maintaining good relationships with parents and carers.
  • Understand the vital part parents play in their child care and education
  • Understand some of the barriers to parental involvement.
  • Consider best practice in sharing information with parents and carers about their children
  • Consider ways in which to encourage parents and carers to be involved in their child's setting.
  • Understand the importance of communication and feedback

The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines

Certification

On completion of this course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate.

Duration

Approximately 1 - 2 hours. The length of time taken depends entirely on how quickly you can study and absorb the material. You can proceed as quickly or slowly as you like, and there is no limit on how long you can take to do the course.

Target Audience

Produced by the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) this course is aimed at practitioners who are working in an early years setting.

However, the learning content is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about child care best practice including those working in playgroups, pre-school, childminders and schools.
