Dr Bob Gomersall - Chairman

If there’s one man who truly understands the power of the internet in the transformation of businesses, then it’s the Chairman of Virtual College Bob Gomersall. Bob has co-founded and directed multiple companies, which use the internet’s power of accessibility and interactivity to provide quality services to the education, healthcare and leisure sectors. The experience Bob acquired from these ventures has been a great benefit to the development of Virtual College, as the insights gained have helped put the company at the forefront of the Edtech industry. All entrepreneurs need a way to relax and Bob does so by enjoying walks around the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.


Rod Knox - Chief Executive

Rod co-founded Virtual College in 1995 after recognising how transformative online learning could be to traditional training methods and processes. Since the early days of CD-ROMs and the internet, his passion for innovation has been unwavering and he has grown Virtual College to a 150-strong team, supporting over 2 million online learners. In 2015 he was recognised for his role in developing the e-learning industry by being awarded silver in the Learning Technologies ‘outstanding contribution award’ category. Recently the success of the company has been further recognised by the London Stock Exchange as 1 of the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain.

Hannah Brindle - Managing Director

Hannah joined Virtual College in 2012 and, as managing director, is responsible for the performance of the company. With a wealth of experience directing large-scale projects and working with key stakeholders from around the world, Hannah uses her expertise to direct the future of Virtual College. Having worked in different roles throughout the company, Hannah has a multi-faceted understanding of how the business operates and the people she works with, enabling her to provide the support needed to fulfil our vision. In her spare time, Hannah is our resident DIY expert, using her skills to restore an old farmhouse in France and work on a number of housing design projects in the UK.


Lesley Ord - Operations Director

Lesley has been at Virtual College since the spring of 2000. As operations director she is the clock that keeps the company ticking, with responsibility for ensuring that internal processes allow staff to work at their maximum efficiency. Having been with the company for so many years, Lesley is the perfect person to organise the central logistics so that we can fulfil our vision of gaining 20 million learners by 2020, whilst still offering the same high levels of customer satisfaction. Lesley is a great lover of the Yorkshire Dales, and her idea of a relaxing weekend is a blustery walk up Malham Cove or Pen-y-ghent with her energetic Springer Spaniel..

Alistair Gladstone FIND OUT ABOUT Ali

Alistair Gladstone - Divisional Director

Alistair joined Virtual College in 2003 and is responsible for marketing and online sales. He ensures that our marketing intelligence keeps up to date with current trends so that we always deliver courses and educational technologies that are industry leading. He also makes sure that we stay close to the needs of our customers and their training objectives. A jack of all trades, Alistair splits his spare time between cycling and playing guitar in a band, Red Room.


Hayley Khan - Head of Growth and Innovation

Hayley joined Virtual College in 2011 and now heads up Virtual College’s Learning Technology Consultancy team. Her team take responsibility for the full customer lifecycle from the development of the digital learning products to working alongside our customers to bring learning technology solutions to life in their organisations. Hayley has worked in a number of customer-centric roles in Virtual College and this experience helps her to maximise the value and impact of digital training in our customer’s organisations. Outside of work, Hayley is a budding linguist and speaks French and un poco de español!


Darren Lawson - Technical Manager

Darren joined the company in 2009 and is responsible for the development of the software that powers Virtual College. This includes Enable, the learning management system which provides the platform that customers use for their online training. Darren consistently looks for ways to improve the learner journey by refining the usability and functionality of the software. Known to do a spot of DJing, Darren likes to use his free time listening to and making his own electronic music.


Sarah Baker - Content Development Manager

Sarah joined Virtual College in 2005 and is responsible for managing e-learning content developments. She oversees the team of instructional and graphic designers, who create interactive e-learning concepts which are complemented by bespoke illustrations, branding and strong design. With a background in skills and qualification design and delivery, she works directly with customers to scope products, understand their needs and develop e-learning content which exceeds expectations.


Maria Paslawska - Quality Manager

Maria joined Virtual College in 2010 and is responsible for the Quality Department, where her team ensures that all training material produced is of the highest standard. She is passionate about customer satisfaction and works with her team to analyse thousands of learner evaluations to guarantee that any issues or problems are solved as fast as possible. She also manages the learner support team, who aim to offer the best quality support so that learners’ journey is smooth and enjoyable. Maria has a wealth of international experience, having studied in France and Poland, she can also speak three languages.


Fiona Robinson - HR Manager

Fiona joined Virtual College in the summer of 2014. She prides herself on successfully recruiting and bringing together a wide range of professionals, from software developers to salespeople. Fiona is equally skilled at engaging with staff once recruited, working to be at the heart of a positive culture within Virtual College. Further areas of expertise include staff retention, performance management and payroll. Fiona is a bit of a world traveller, having walked the Great Wall of China and Inca Trail in Peru to raise money for charity.
