  • Does IOSH certification expire?

There is no expiring date on the certificate you get for completing IOSH Working Safely. Therefore, this certificate is always technically valid and doesn't have to be renewed.

Whilst this is true, IOSH and other health and safety providers tend to recommend that you retake training courses every three years. This is because the content of these courses might change based on new legislation or developments in the industry, or because you may have forgotten the specifics of what you learnt in the course over three years.

Therefore, it’s recommended that if you’re continuing to work in a role where health and safety in the workplace are important, it’s a good idea to get a new IOSH Working Safely certificate every 3 years.

  • Which is harder - IOSH or NEBOSH?

The question as to which is easier, NEBOSH or IOSH really comes down to what you are hoping to get out of taking a health and safety training course.

If you work in a job that has no major health and safety risks, and just want to improve your general knowledge on the topic, then IOSH training is probably the best out of the two. Managers in particular may feel that undertaking the IOSH Managing Safely course is best for their role, as this covers how to keep other employees safe when you are in a managerial role.

If you work in an industry where health and safety is particularly important, or are hoping to begin a career in a health and safety role, a NEBOSH qualification is your best option. Some roles may request that you complete courses from this examination board as a requirement for the position, and some industries like construction or manufacturing may need employees to undertake health and safety training specific to their line of work, which NEBOSH provides.
