What Is Your Job Role?

Head of Year - Tibshelf Community School

About you and what you do – tell us a little about yourself.

I am Head of Progress for Year 9 at Tibshelf Community School. I am responsible for the wellbeing, progress and behaviour of 180 Year 9's on a daily basis. I am also Trip Leader for the iVenture South Africa 2019 trip, taking 6 of my students to South Africa in October 2019 where we’ll be teaching first aid to rural communities and working with wildlife conservationists.

Why did you sign up to do the ‘Prepared to Save a Life’ course?

I have previously worked as a Primary First Aider within schools, so when I was approached about encouraging the iVenture South Africa 2019 students to complete the Prepared to Save a Life course, I was keen to complete it myself. I think the more people who have even basic knowledge of first aid the better.

What do you think about the solution now that you have successfully completed the course?

I think it’s an approachable, accessible and educational course. The sections are broken down into bite-size chunks which make it easy to learn or (in my case) brush up on first aid skills. I would highly recommend everyone to complete the course – young or old – you never know when that knowledge might come in useful!

Given Prepared to Save a Life’s mission to have a life saver on every street corner – an ambitious target of 250,000 learners trained within the first year – how can you help spread the message?

I have supported my 6 iVenture students in accessing and completing the course. I will also be supporting these students to spread the word within schools via assemblies, and will be working with Councillor Deborah Watson to run an in-school competition to encourage students to complete the course.
