A horticultural e-learning programme has scooped an award for one garden centre.

According to, Peter Barratt's Garden Centre in Stockton has become the recipient of a Commitment to Training and Education accolade for its online training courses designed to help its workforce.

Previously to September of 2009, the facility offered only in-house and statutory training to its recruits, but a new drive to increase business has resulted in an e-learning programme becoming available.

Now, team members can have access to the resource from wherever there is an internet connection.

Manager Stuart Wood explained that video, illustrations and detailed instructions are available online for individuals to study.

"At the end of each module or group of modules there is an assessment, which tests and ensures that the employee has learned and understood the training," he added.

Meanwhile, Liverpool John Moore University revealed it is to hold an e-learning seminar.
