Prevalence of e-learning 'increasing'

Educational institutions in the state of New York are beginning to embrace e-learning, according to one publication.

The Buffalo News reports that the prevalence of online training programs is growing, with many facilities offering a wider range of the courses, which have been around for adult and mature students for a while but are now also becoming more popular for high school pupils.

The latter movement is inspired by steps taken in other states and cities, such as Memphis, Tennessee.

Betty Brown in Memphis's office of instructional technology told the newspaper that the distance training courses allow students to log-in from anywhere in the world.

"Online courses are less expensive to implement and execute than traditional courses. The cost of implementing online courses decreases with each student enrolled and enrolment is increasing each year," she added.

Elsewhere, the first official European e-learning Summit is to begin in Sheffield today.
