Middle East education 'is being transformed through online learning'

schedule 5 years, 2 months by Virtual College in Virtual College

E-learning is having a transformative effect on education systems throughout the world.

Brocade Communications Systems' Middle East and North Africa regional manager Sufian Dweik suggested that the continuing proliferation of mobile devices is leaving academic centres open for change.

He suggested the "one size fits all" model of education, which traditionally involves a teacher delivering instruction to a classroom of students, will no longer be able to compete with digital education revolutions.

Previously, the representative suggested that organisations in the Middle East are being constrained by a lack of campus technology investment and innovation among vendors, despite the fact that they have spent significant sums of money on hosted services, hardware upgrades and applications.

All types of school are examining online learning tools and striving to bring these developments into their curriculum, Brocade Communications Systems stated.

As well as educational facilities, governments all over the Middle East are integrating computing technologies into their education sectors, the firm added, highlighting developments such as the Mohammad Bin Rashid Smart Learning Initiative as examples of this.

Large-scale e-learning initiatives require education providers to ensure their facilities are capable of bandwidth-intensive internet activity, the organisation continued, recommending the use of a "high-performance campus network" as an innovation that can accommodate growing needs for web access.

Campuses will have to accommodate the need for modern learning institutions to be able to cope with virtual learning environments, which requires them to provide provisions for rich video, bring your own device, unified communications and other developments, while creating a safe and secure single command centre providing consistent performance and ensuring network availability, Brocade Communications Systems declared.

Schools will also have to be presented with a wide range of online learning applications, while students must be able to access the web on demand both inside and outside of the classroom setting, it noted.

The company pointed out: "Today's students live their lives with access to the latest, most functional devices imaginable."
