Onset to host one-off online training course
Onset has announced it is going to be running an hour-long online training session next Wednesday (December 12th). The data loggers supplier has developed the course - which will be presented by principle of Stetz Consulting Mark Stetz - in order to provide information on identifying and evaluating energy efficiency measures. Mr Stez will be explaining how to recognise seemingly unnoticeable failures of economisers used in commercial building air handlers and rooftop units as a way of cutting down on company expenditure. Participants should already have some knowledge of these topics, as well as maintenance and temperature and they must have some basic computer skills, such as the ability to use Microsoft Excel. Primarily, the e-learning is aiming to attract facility managers and operators, mechanical engineers and commissioning agents, while heating, ventilating and air conditioning technicians (HVAC) are also welcome. Those who wish to take part will need to shell out $95 (£59) and they are to be rewarded with a Certificate of Completion at the end of the training, which is approved for one green building certification institute credit hour. After the class, individuals will be expected to understand how economisers reduce energy use and how to develop and implement an economiser diagnostic plan. In addition, they should be capable of recognising failure modes, evaluating information from data loggers, interpreting results and developing a corrective course of action. Mr Stetz is also due to discuss how economisers should work, give any reasons for why they are not functioning and help people to identify failures that are not immediately apparent. These problems are the leading cause of energy waste in HVAC, but they can be easily fixed and these solutions are likely to be included in the online training. Another of Onset's digital education courses - Monitoring Green Roof Performance with Weather Stations - discusses the importance of documenting the progress of green roofs to show they are providing enough benefits to justify a company investment.
