Firms to receive business training from Google

A group of Croydon company owners are set to receive free business training in a free seminar hosted by Google next month.

The managers are due to meet with representatives from the IT giant on February 1st, where they will be offered free tips and advice on how they can make the most of the internet within their organisation. Google is also going to be providing free digital consultations as part of a drive to help business leaders improve their e-skills.

Local MP Gavin Barwell is behind the event and organised the seminar to encourage nearby firms to use the web more effectively, while he is further hoping to support various start-up ventures and larger companies that are trying to forge their path in UK industry.

The politician stated an online presence is key to any businesses and said that in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are successful are likely to contribute to economic growth.

"I hope that as many entrepreneurs as possible take advantage of the free expertise on offer from Google," Mr Barwell added.

Dan Cobley, managing director at Google UK, pointed to a recent report released by the Boston Consulting Group that found SMEs grow quicker when they harness the power of the internet, as this is where the majority of consumers look for deals on gifts and services.

He remarked: "Our goal is to help businesses understand how easy it is to get online and contribute to the overall growth of their enterprise and the local economy."

Company owners are now able to register for free consultations, which will take place at Croydon Town Hall from 14:00 GMT to 17:00 GMT, while they should bear in mind that spaces are limited.

Once organisations have recognised the benefits of operating online, they may want to think about using the web to roll out training to their employees. Not only does this cut costs, it means workers can access e-learning in their own time, without it interfering with a busy daily schedule.
