Many top ticket resale sites 'breach Consumer Rights Act 2015'

An investigation into several top ticket resale websites has revealed that many are breaching the Consumer Rights Act (CRA) 2015 by not providing buyers with key ticket information.

The research, carried out by the Consumers' Association Which?, found that websites such as Seatwave, Get me In! - both owned by Ticketmaster - Viagogo, Stubhub and WorldTicketShop were reselling tickets without providing fans with clear information about where they would be sitting.

Richard Lloyd, executive director of Which?, said: "It's unacceptable. These ticket resale sites are getting away with not providing fans with key ticket information, leaving them unsure whether their ticket is a good deal, where they'll be seated or if they'll even get in."

Responding to the investigation, all websites said it is the seller's responsibility to provide the correct information before listing their ticket on such digital platforms.

A spokesperson for Ticketmaster's Get Me In! and Seatwave said: "We work with those selling tickets on our sites to ensure that they understand their obligations to comply with their legal duties, including the requirements to list all available ticket details.

"Our approach is that, when notified of an apparent gap in information, we would inform sellers of their obligation to provide details. If it becomes clear that a seller has the information and is not complying with the CRA, we would ultimately remove the listing."

Mr Lloyd concluded that reselling websites must accept responsibility, rather than blaming individual sellers, and only post those tickets for sale that meet the legal requirements.
