Top 5 Trends we expect to see at Learning Tech 2019

Learning Tech 2019

With more than 8,500 learning and development professionals expected to visit Learning Technologies’ new home at the Excel, London, we look at some of the top trends in the industry for 2019 and the hot topics being covered in the long list of conferences and seminars held over the two-day event.

VR Training

The use of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies in the L&D industry is no longer a pipe dream. Popular devices such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift have brought VR into our homes, and the roaring success of Pokémon Go in 2016 brought AR to millions of our mobile devices, with over 650 million downloads.

Many L&D professionals have been cautious about adopting these technologies for some time, believing that it will be a hard sell to the decision makers in their organisation. Virtual College will be demonstrating some of the uses of VR and AR on stand H30 at Learning Technologies and offering a free consultation on how it could support your learning and development strategy

Micro Learning

Microlearning, or bite-sized learning continuous to be discussed within E-learning and L&D. According to a survey carried out by the Rapid Learning Institute, 94% of L&D professionals said that their learners preferred bite-sized learning modules to E-learning courses that run to 30 minutes and more.

Growth Mindset

A recent progression of educational thought and practice is the growth mindset theory. Encouraging a growth mindset approach can be the difference between prescribed learning and learning which is driven by the individuals. However, this can only be achieved through seeing genuine behaviour change.

Virtual College will be hosting a seminar at Learning Technologies titled ‘The Power of a Growth Mindset’ – visit us in Theatre 6 at 1.15pm on 13th February 2019 to attend the free seminar lead by Sarah Baker, our growth mindset expert and Content Development Manager.

Learning Analytics

92% of senior leaders and executives believe that they are not seeing the data which shows the impact of learning and effectiveness of learning and development strategies. As L&D professionals are increasingly required to prove the ROI if learning, a shift towards learning and performance powered by data and analytics would be advantageous.

The evolution of the LMS means that we now have the systems to collect data after learning is made available - but how many of us are collecting the facts that we need to measure performance impact? We expect many of the key conversations at Learning Technologies to be around impact data, measuring learning impact and the ROI from training.

Collaborative Learning

The way in which we work together is constantly changing. In the digital age, it is far too easy to hide behind emails and online communications and forget that one of the most powerful tools we have access to when learning is each other. Advancements in learning technology has allowed the use of cloud-based systems to work collaboratively, communicate and share information.

Virtual College’s Enable LMS is the perfect example of a cloud-based system accessible on any device, giving learners the opportunity to collaborate, communicate and complete their training as a team.

To discuss how we can help with any of the trends above, contact us or visit us at stand H30 at the Learning Technologies exhibition on 13-14 February 2019. We will also be revealing our new brand, giving Virtual College a fresh identity for 2019.
