Somerset hospital's food hygiene receives top rating

A hospital in Somerset has scored the highest achievable rating for its food safety standards.

After a detailed examination, food hygiene inspectors awarded the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton five stars, the Somerset County Gazette reports.

The hospital's catering manager Jon Smith commended the work of his team and expressed his satisfaction with the Food Standards Agency's (FSA's) findings, which came following an unannounced visit.

"This is excellent news and shows our staff do an excellent job every day in providing a high quality food service to patients, staff and the public," he said.

FSA inspectors closely examined the facilities, staff, wards and records at the hospital in a visit that took up a whole day.

Similar achievements were reported at Scarborough Hospital, where members of the catering staff were recently awarded with several Level Three and Level Two certificates in basic food hygiene, according to the Scarborough Evening News.
