Fully-digital hospital opens in Bristol

A private hospital newly opened in Clifton, Bristol is making use of cutting-edge technology and digital platforms to provide first-class healthcare for patients.

The £20 million Chesterfield Hospital is the first fully-digital institution in the south-west and boasts three, hi-tech operating theatres that offer surgeons fast access to patient files and X-rays, the Bristol Post reports.

These digital machines have image-streaming capabilities and conference call settings, allowing doctors to get in touch with other specialists instantly, and could potentially be used as remote learning and training platforms.

Surgeons can also preset each theatre to their individual needs, cutting operation times and the period a patient is anaesthetised for.

Ashley Livesey, hospital director for Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital, which is centralising its healthcare provisions in the new building, said the opening marks the completion of a special project for Bristol and she is delighted the plans have come to fruition.

She continued: "We have invested every bit of our 50 years of experience in providing high-quality healthcare into creating this new hospital, combining world-class surgeons with the best of patient care from matron-led teams and the latest medical technology to ensure we can provide a service that is second to none."

The hospital has also been fitted with a top-of-the-range diagnostic centre that features digital mammography, high-definition endoscopy and MRI and CT scanners.

Bristol's lord mayor Faruk Choudhury opened the facility for businesses and was treated to a full tour of the building.

Operations are bound to be smooth at the Chesterfield Hospital, largely thanks to the vast collection of digital equipment that will slash administrative costs and ensure patient waiting times are much shorter than at other institutions.

Although local residents were previously upset about the plans to build a new healthcare facility, due to the large number of trees that were felled during the construction process, they are bound to have a change of heart when they see how they can benefit.
