The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) has launched a new app to help find children who have gone missing.
The UK Child Rescue Alert app is free on both Android and iOS platforms now. When a child is known to have been abducted, police activate a Child Rescue Alert, providing members of the public with information so that they can help look or come forward if they have seen something.
Developed by charity Missing People, it also provides access to the latest guidance on child safety. The system can also push the alerts via email and text, and tens of thousands signed up prior to the live date of May 25th.
The CEOP is part of the National Crime Agency and is dedicated to cracking down on children abuse, with a mandate to work with other law enforcement agents to target serious and organised crime.
Protecting children from predators - both online and offline - is an ongoing societal concern. To this end, Virtual College developed the Safeguarding Children e-Academy, which provides a wide range of training courses for individuals and organisations to ensure they are aware of how best to do so.
Among the members of this community are 72 various safeguarding organisations, including Local Safeguarding Children Boards across England and Wales. All of the courses are developed in collaboration with these members so as to ensure that the training reflects the most up-to-date best practice, as well as accounting for new legislation as it comes into effect.
The academy offers more than 30 different courses ranging from 'Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect' to 'Children's and Young People's Development'. The e-learning modules are provided to individuals who work with children, charities, schools, hospitals, private organisations and local government agencies.
Alongside the Safeguarding Children, programme, Virtual College's Safeguarding Adults e-Academy provides a similar training function for the protection of adults who are at risk, including the elderly, infirm and people with mental or physical disabilities who rely on others for care.
