Virtual College Host Training Advisory Panel on Forced Marriage

On Friday 25th September 2015 Virtual College hosted the Autumn Advisory Panel Meeting (APM) at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley.

The Advisory Panel is a quarterly coming together of experienced professionals who specialise in safeguarding to discuss the current issues and hot topics that society faces.

The theme of this Advisory Panel was forced marriages and featured a presentation from Chaz Akoshile, Joint Head of the Forced Marriage Unit. The Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) was established in 2005 to lead on the governments forced marriage policy and has been formed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Home Office.

Chaz’s presentation discussed what the FMU is, how they help to assist those at risk and the potential warning indicators that a person may be at risk of a forced marriage.
