Fiona in cycle marathon to support Marie Curie

Ilkley-based Virtual College has sponsored Fiona Sheen on a 100 mile bike ride to raise funds for Marie Curie.

Fiona cycled from Ilkley to Selby and back in memory of her father who died of cancer 18 months ago.

Fiona who works as a customer account manager at Ilkley online learning company, Virtual College, said: ”I started training in mid-March having had a ‘rest’ from cycling for 2 ½ years.

“The challenge on the day was quite tough but fitting in the training beforehand was perhaps the hardest part.

“I would train two to three times per week before work and at weekends mixing up length and speed with hill training.

“I was fortunate that on the day it was wonderfully sunny but there was a prevailing headwind in both directions. I managed to complete the 100 miles in 8 hours including lunch stops.”
