Earlier this month the winners of the 21st Construction News Awards were revealed, showcasing the strength and talent within the construction industry.
On July 13th, the winners of the 21st Construction News Awards were announced to construction leaders from across the UK. At Grosvenor House Hotel in London the awards celebrated the strength, talent and diversity of the industry, crowning companies such as Lanes, Wates Group and Willmott Dixon among the winners.
The event celebrated inspiring projects and initiatives with many companies winning numerous awards and the Wates Group scooping the Judges Supreme Award.
In total, the awards have 18 different categories, over 60 hand-picked judges and more than 1,400 attendees. Each year the Construction Awards work with a variety of businesses and organisations that are keen to support the great work the sector has to offer. Categories range from diversity and training initiatives to projects and sustainability.
According to organisers, the awards aren’t just about one night of celebration but are instead a year-round mission to highlight the best of the industry and demonstrate the passion those in construction have.
Construction News editor, Tom Fitzpatrick said: “These awards recognise the brilliant contribution to society that this industry makes on a daily basis.
“From homes to schools and hospitals, to rail and roads and stadiums to supercomputers, we are proud to recognise the achievements of the companies working hard to improve the construction industry and help grow the UK economy.”
Lendlease won ‘Best Residential Developer’, NG Bailey scooped ‘BIM Excellence’, The University of Nottingham were crowned ‘Client of the Year’, while WSP received ‘Construction Consultancy of the Year’. Other awards went to Carillion Highways, Skanska Civil Engineering and Lucas, to name just a few.
When it comes to health and safety, Morrisroe demonstrated safety excellence with it work on Greenwich Peninsula. The company won the client's safety award for all four quarters even though the award was open to all Peninsula projects.
Morrisroe has embraced HAVwear tech as well as implementing dust elimination techniques. In addition to this the firm has developed a training course that has led to improved safety performance, which surpasses industry best practice, encouraging employees to be innovate to solve problems.
When it comes to mental wellbeing, last year Aggregate Industries hit a milestone of 300 employees undertaking mental health first aid training. It also ensures employees have regular medical screenings for employees, which have helped diagnose serious non-work-related illnesses.
