How to Maximise your day at the Learning Technologies Exhibition 2019
The Learning Technologies exhibition is Europe’s leading showcase of organisational learning and the technology designed to support learning at work. It covers a range of topics on people development, performance and learning resources, and learning systems and services. With over 8,500 visitors, 150 free L&D seminars and over 200 exhibitors, it’s become an industry leading L&D conference providing innovative ideas for those involved in workplace learning.
It’s important for LT 2019 attendees to make the most out of their time at this year’s exhibition, and thoroughly planning your trip in advance ensures you don’t miss out on anything amazing the show has to offer.
Pre- Show Planning
The two-day event held at London’s Excel offers a range of seminars and exhibition stands to visit, which is why it’s best to plan and research before attending. Consider each seminar and must-see event to allocate time to look around the exhibition. The top seminars to attend at this year’s LT 2019 exhibition will be released on the Virtual College website shortly as a guide. This is also a great opportunity to attend our seminar, hosted by Sarah Baker, our Growth Mindset expert and Content Development Manager, on the Power of Growth Mindset on 13th February at 1.15pm in Theatre 6.
LinkedIn is extremely useful for pre-show research. Explore the companies and seminar speakers to identify the insight and skills you could gain before choosing which events to attend.
Planning your way around the exhibition is also key. Learning Technologies has a range of exhibitors promoting new technologies, software and services so take a look at the floor plan before you attend and make a note of the stands of interest or who matches your requirements.
Be Open Minded
Learning and Development in the workplace has evolved tremendously over the years and is considered an integral part of an organisation’s development. If you are searching for a new supplier or simply looking to learn more about the industry, visit with an open mind and think about how emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Gamification can be implemented within your organisation. A few questions you may want to consider whilst walking around the show…
What success or ROI can a new learning technology bring to my organisation?
Can we see our employees embracing this if we were to implement it?
Can this new technology or service be a better way of engaging our employees?
Can we work with a supplier to create something bespoke?
The Learning Technologies exhibition and conference is a great opportunity to network with likeminded professionals in the L&D space. Take lots of business cards and introduce yourself to people outside of your network. If a stand is busy, go back later, you never know what opportunities might arise.
The LinkedIn app is now extremely useful for finding connections at events. The recently installed “nearby” feature uses Bluetooth to identify everyone within 10m of you with a LinkedIn profile. Be sure to message your connections if you haven’t physically introduced yourself and mention the Learning Technologies event. A useful tool if you don’t remember names!
Post- Show Follow Up
Although the exhibition finishes on the 14th February, this doesn’t mean your conference experience should also finish. Be sure to follow up with valuable contacts you have made over the two days. There will undoubtedly be a number of connections you have made that could be a great addition to your professional circle. Whether this is sending an invitation through LinkedIn, sending an email, or a courtesy call, you can establish these contacts and discuss any opportunities you may be able to create together.
