Our delivery approach
With decades of experience creating online content, we know the importance of working in a clear and collaborative way. Our content development method follows a series of simple steps to make sure the final product is the perfect fit for your organisation’s needs.
Step 1: Scoping
We start by running a number of sessions to make sure the training solution we create is right for you. This includes understanding your organisation, the issues you are trying to solve and objectives you want to achieve. Together we come up with ideas around the look and feel, levels of interactivity and use of summative and formative assessment.
Step 2: Instructional design
Working with you, we map out the visual, text and audio elements, as well as the interactions and branching, of each screen in an online course. We create your learning experience in a way to maximise staff knowledge uptake and retention.
Step 3: Graphic design and build
We use engaging imagery to ensure the learning process is visually stimulating and helps support knowledge uptake. Storyline technology is used to create most of our e-learning courses based on your storyboard and agreed style.
Step 4: Testing, release and deployment
During this process, we proofread the content and test it technically to make sure all elements work as intended. It is also tested on different browsers and on your chosen LMS. At the very final stages, we record and add your agreed narration and audio files, and work with you to deploy and roll out the training.
Where we can help
We treat the traditional client-developer relationship as a partnership. One that is focused on delivering results for you, your learners and your organisation. That’s why we’ve won gold awards for both 'Learning Technologies Supplier of the Year 2016-17' and 'E-learning Development Company of the Year 2015-16 '.

Carbon Literacy
The Carbon Literacy Project, founded in Manchester, aims to offer every person living, working and studying in Manchester a day’s worth of Carbon Literacy training by 2020. Virtual College collaborated with them to create an interactive e-learning course that gives learners a solid understanding of climate change and advice on what actions they can take to help move their own organisations towards adopting a low carbon culture. From animated videos to digestible infographics, we have designed our content to suit a broad audience.
Before working with Virtual College, we had surveyed all the e-learning resources in the public domain that we could find, so we already knew what was out there. Our opinion, and the opinion of colleagues who've encountered it, is that this is now the best e-learning resource for the teaching and communication of climate change to a general audience, we've ever seen. We simply don't know a better one.
British Council
Virtual College responded to a tender request which came through the G-Cloud portal - an agreement between the government and suppliers who provide cloud-based services. Buying services through frameworks is faster and cheaper than entering into individual procurement contracts.
The requirement was to create a suite of 7 e-learning courses for British Council global staff on topics such as exam invigilation. The training courses were being delivered by the British Council as instructor led training but the purpose was to produce a module for each topic which lasted for about an hour via e-learning.
Virtual College scored highest in all four categories for marking the response and we have been very pleased with the quality of the resources created so far.
Jisc
Virtual College partnered with Bradford College to develop innovative and engaging digital resources for the free of charge Hairdressing Training service from Jisc, the digital services and solutions organisation for UK education and research.
These include videos, step-by-step guides and assessment activities. The resources cover subjects from cutting to colouring, reception and salon duties.
Virtual College offered us the best chance of delivering engaging and interactive learning resources, enabling the content to stand the test of time until the next update to the National Occupation Standards. I’m really pleased with the resources that are now available and anticipate them being used by a large number of students and their tutors.
