Food hygiene records 'to go live in Wales'

schedule 6 years, 7 months, 2 weeks, 6 days by Virtual College in Food Hygiene

Restaurant-goers in Wales will now be able to check the food safety standards of eateries in their area, according to one newspaper.

The Western Mail has reported that the food hygiene ratings of many eating outlets, which were determined by their local councils, will be available on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website today (February 28th).

"This campaign will increase awareness about the rating scheme, which will ensure people have a little more information about where they are eating," mother Sharon Mills, whose young son died during the E.coli outbreak in 2005, told the publication.

Ms Mills said she could not understand why four Welsh councils - Wrexham, Ceredigion, Blaenau Gwent and Powys - had yet to upload information on to the FSA website.

In October, eighteen of the country's local authorities began the process of delivering such information about eateries in their areas.

Over 160,000 premises are listed on the new scheme and 123 councils have so far contributed UK-wide.
