Individuals worried about weight loss have been advised by one food hygiene and nutrition expert that larger portions could be the answer.
Dr Carina Norris, nutrition consultant, said by eating larger meals less often, people can give themselves a greater feeling of fullness which lasts longer and does not result in them snacking as much between meals.
She commented: "The most sustaining foods are the ones which contain a mixture of protein, good fats, and fibre - all three elements are very filling."
Ms Norris added that foods which slow down the eating process, such as fruits that have to be peeled or large salads which take a lot of preparation, can also be an excellent way to manage mealtimes more effectively.
According to research carried out by Purdue University, eating fewer, regular-sized meals with higher amounts of lean protein can make one feel more full than eating smaller, more frequent meals.
