Cornwall Council has awarded one chef its prestigious healthy eating and food safety award in light of his exemplary hygiene record and healthy menu range.
Bruce Rennie, head chef at The Gurnard's Head pub and guest house near St Ives, received the Cornwall gold level healthier eating and food safety (CHEFS) award due to his locally sourced, healthy dishes and the high standards of cleanliness in his kitchen, the Publican's Morning Advertiser reports.
Explaining the significance of the certificate, Cornwall Council's commercial food and safety officer Martin Holland said: "This is the most prestigious award we give and reflects extremely high standards in food safety and hygiene."
Keen to put it on public display, the Gurnard's Head co-owner Charles Inkin commented the award showed the level of "balance and variety" of ingredients on the plate.
The CHEFS awards were launched in 2005 in collaboration between the county council's food safety officers, the NHS Health Promotion Service, change 4 life and trading standards officers.
