Ilkley Grammar School get Prepared to Save A Life
Virtual College have a longstanding relationship with Ilkley Grammar School and over the years have offered work experience placements, advice and mentoring to students. We worked with Karen Mitchell, the Careers Adviser and Vocational Co-ordinator, to help offer students the Prepared to save a life course as part of building up their CV’s prior to writing their personal statements for UCAS applications. The students were encouraged to take part with dedicated time during school being offered to them or the option of them completing it at home.
To encourage them to take part we offered a prize of Amazon vouchers for the two fastest completers, Laura and Adam, were the two lucky winners out of 79 students from year 12 (16/17-year olds) who completed the Prepared to Save a Life course.
Laura and Adam were presented with their prizes at Ilkley Grammar School, we asked them for their thoughts on the course, Laura said “the course has made me more aware of how to prevent the loss of lives. It was really useful, I hope I won’t have to use any of the skills I have learnt though”.
Adam said, “It was very useful and interesting, and I feel like I’ll be much more comfortable helping if I find myself in a situation like this”. Learning to save lives is a valuable skill no matter what age you are, it was great supporting the local grammar school and helping raise awareness of the importance of basic first aid skills.
