New UK university course features online learning

A UK university has made use of e-learning technology to offer a new programme aimed at professionals.

Anglia Ruskin University now provides an accredited course in charity and social enterprise management, on which students study part-time in a combination of one-day workshops and online learning.

Writing in the Guardian, programme manager at the institution Andy Brady explained that the new option intends to assist current professionals in the charity sector and will address issues such as the Big Society.

"Big Society is now the backdrop for third sector organisations and how to adapt to it ... will definitely be a theme of our discussions both in class and online," he said.

Mr Brady added that the course has been shaped partly by feedback from such professionals and is being offered by 3rd Sector Futures - the university's unit for research and education with charities, social enterprises and voluntary organisations.

The programme will include modules on marketing and measuring impact, as well as finance and funding.
