Nottingham hospitals offer free training to young people

Young people in Nottingham are being offered the chance to receive free training and work experience with the NHS.

As part of a collaboration between the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) and the Prince's Trust, unemployed people aged between 16 and 25 are getting involved in the Get into Hospital Services Programme, which is seeking to teach participants various key skills that are crucial to working in the sector, This is Nottingham reports.

During the four-week scheme, they will be educated in the fields of problem-solving, communication, team work, time management and customer services, while training is also on offer in interview skills and CV writing.

Kicking off today (March 4th), the initiative is supporting 13 participants in roles within clinical services across NUS, such as linen services, catering, cleaning and human resources.

Daniel Mortimer, director of workforce and strategy at NUH, stated the body is delighted to be teaming up with the Prince's Trust to improve the career prospects of young people in Nottingham.

"As one of the largest employers in Nottingham we are committed to providing employment, education and career development and I hope we can have a valued input in helping to create a local workforce for the future," he was quoted as saying.

Once young people have completed the training, they will have had the experience of working in a team of up to 15 people and are able to receive further help and support towards getting a job elsewhere.

Furthermore, there are no requirements prior to taking the course, as everything will be learnt during the programme. However, participants will benefit from a taster day that is held before the training begins, so people can make sure it is right for them.

After the scheme is over, it may be worth young people looking to other ways they can sharpen up their skills and online education could be ideal. As it can be accessed whenever and wherever they want, individuals are sure to find it is a convenient and effective method of learning.
