A fish and chips shop in Buckinghamshire is the only local food premises in the area to be twice awarded the highest rating in food safety standards by the nationwide initiative Scores on the Doors.
The Steeple Claydon shop has been consistently noted for its cleanliness but a random inspection from Aylesbury Vale District Council officers found the local institution deserved a second five star excellence rating, the Bicester Advertiser and Review reports.
"People do comment about it, especially new customers," said proprietor Alan Ashley on his shop's high standard of cleanliness.
He added: "People do expect higher standards now," and with customers now instantly able to find ratings of food establishments in their area thanks to a text to the Scores on the Doors initiative, excuses for poor hygiene are rapidly depleting.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) backed up Mr Ashley's claims with the publication of its frequent public attitudes survey last week, which asserted that around 82 per cent of people are aware of food hygiene standards.
