Caterers from schools, care homes, hospitality and leisure sectors looking to provide healthier meals for customers can learn about nutrition and take an examination within just 2 to 3 hours. That's the average amount of time required to complete the modules on a brand new online course from Virtual College. The recently launched online course was developed in conjunction with nutrition experts Verner Wheelock Associates (VWA).
The City and Guilds accredited Nutrition, Healthier Food and Special Diets - Foundation1 is available through Virtual College and has been written by VWA’s nutrition experts. Its clear format provides a step-by-step introduction to the basic principles of nutrition and healthy eating and includes modules on: menu planning; the changes in nutritional requirements throughout life; links between nutrition and health; preparing food for people on special diets; food preservation, processing and labelling.
VWA already run a regular series of face-to-face courses on nutrition and healthy eating, from basic to advanced levels. VWA Managing Director, Alison Wheelock, says, "Our classroom-based nutrition courses are very popular, but we recognise that there are people out there who are interested in nutrition but are unable to attend due to time, distance or budgetary constraints. The online course has been developed in a simple, modular format, so that trainees can learn in their own time and at their own pace."
*This course has since been replaced by our Nutrition and Hydration course which can be located on our site here: https://www.virtual-college.co.uk/courses/food-and-drink/nutrition-and-hydration
