This free Fire Prevention and Safeguarding training course will equip all those who come into contact with people who are at increased risk of fire in their homes with the knowledge and understanding they need to help prevent future fire related serious safeguarding incidents.

About the free Fire Prevention and Safeguarding Training Course

This free course is intended to reduce the risk of preventable fires in people’s homes. The first section contains fire prevention guidance that is organised around the key question of 'what makes someone at increased risk of fire?'

The guidance from fire services is structured under these two main headings:

  • Environmental factors
  • Lifestyle and behavioural factors

The training also details the specific considerations to take into account in the assessment of fire risks that relate to specific health needs, impairments, neurodiversity and disabilities.

The course is suitable for a wide range of job roles including social workers, assessment officers, teachers, health professionals, occupational therapists, domiciliary care staff, police, probation officers, housing officers, youth workers, safeguarding leads, volunteers and carers in the community, students, academics and others who have a role to promote the welfare and safeguard vulnerable people.

By completing this free Fire Prevention and Safeguarding course you will learn:

  • To identify the most common causes of fires, and what action to take to prevent fires in people’s homes
  • To recognise and address the factors that makes a person at increased risk of being harmed by fire
  • To explain how, when and where to refer fire risk concerns
  • To apply best practice approaches for early identification and assessment of fire risks
  • To explain the eight principles of learning to prevent future serious safeguarding fire incidents
  • The course covers relevant legal requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and safeguarding adults responsibilities under the Care Act 2014

Safeguarding Everyone Level 2

Safeguarding Everyone Level 2 explores the responsibilities level 2 workers may have, what the signs and symptoms of abuse are as well as how the risk of abuse can be reduced and the actions needed to be taken if you suspect abuse. In addition, the course expands on whistleblowing and its importance, as well as the importance of multi-agency cooperation and the impact well-known cases of abuse have has on legislation.
