This First Aid training course has been created by Virtual College, in partnership with First Response Training. The course will teach learners to follow the Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines for basic to advanced life support training and provide knowledge of how to act in the event of an incident requiring first aid assistance.
First aid is an invaluable skill to have - allowing you to provide proper initial care in the event of an accident or emergency and take the correct course of action until medical professionals can be contacted. This first aid training course has been developed in partnership with First Response Training to provide learners with an overview of how to act safely and effectively in the event of an incident requiring first aid assistance.
The course teaches learners to follow the Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines for basic to advanced life support training. Learners will know what to do if they are first on the scene of an incident, how to assess the situation as a potential danger zone and understand the importance of the recovery position and how they may apply it.
Upon completion of this course, learners will understand what is meant by the AVPU scale (Alert, Voice, Pain, and Unresponsive), be able to follow guidelines for the use of Automated External Defibrillators and know the key processes to follow in an emergency and what to do for each one: Danger, Response, Shout, Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
This course was formerly known as First Aid: The Primary Survey.

The first aid training and test usually take between 1 to 2 hours to complete (depending on learning speed), which is equivalent to 4 hours face-to-face group training.
The end of course test consists of 15 multiple choice questions. Learners are required to achieve an 75% pass mark, and, if necessary, may attempt the test 6 times at no extra cost, having revisited the training material.
If learners do not immediately achieve the 75% pass mark, further attempts may be given by contacting our Learner Support team.

Pages may include supporting pictures, graphs, animation or extra sounds to help with the learning where appropriate. Some lessons will include challenges/quizzes to help learners stay engaged and interested in the material. Lessons can be taken in any order and each lesson may be paused and resumed at any stage.
The course is self-paced so learners decide how fast or slow the training goes. Once learners have passed the test they are awarded a certificate, which can either be downloaded digitally or sent as a physically copy if this option was chosen when purchasing the course.
Upon completion of any of our courses, learners will be able to download a digital certificate from Virtual College and will include the accrediting bodies logo where applicable.
If you have bought the posted certificate option (available on select courses), a high quality, seal embossed, certificate will be sent out by first class post at the beginning of the following working week.
