Description
Employers have a legal requirement to take reasonable steps to safeguard the health and safety of all employees, including increasing awareness about potential hazards, and outlining what can be done to minimise risk.
The Manual Handling course will help learners understand the correct manual handling procedures to apply to be able to reduce their chance of incurring an injury while handling loads.
The First Aid Primary Survey course will help learners to react appropriately when they are first on the scene of an incident involving a casualty and know what necessary steps to take.
The Manual Handling and First Aid training pack is made up of our popular online courses, Manual Handling in the Workplace and First Aid Primary Survey (developed in partnership with leading national training provider, First Response Training). Both of these courses are CPD certified.
This training is aimed primarily at businesses who want to train their staff in manual handling and provide them a basic understanding of first aid principles. The course provides a general overview of how to stay safe when manual handling, as well as how to act effectively in the event of an incident requiring first aid assistance.
Please note that the first aid training will not make your staff qualified first aiders. In order for someone to become a qualified first aider, further training that includes at least 18 training and assessment contact hours is required.
What does this course cover?
This course covers both the essentials of manual handling and first aid, split over two separate courses. After taking the Manual Handling in the Workplace course, learners will:

- Understand their employer’s legal obligation to ensure employees are aware of health and safety requirements
- Have an understanding of the bone structure in the human spine
- Be able to move and handle objects safely
After taking the First Aid Primary Survey course, learners will:

- Be able to assess the situation as a potential danger zone
- Understand Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing and Circulation
- Understand the importance of the recovery position and how to apply it
Manual Handling and First Aid Training Pack Certificate
The end of both of these courses consists of a test of multiple choice questions. Learners are required to achieve an 80% pass mark for both the assessments, the tests can be taken as many times as needed.
Learners will be able to download a digital certificate on completion of each course. This can be printed, and we suggest you keep it for your records. The content of this training has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and is RoSPA assured.

Legislation covered in this course includes:
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations are the most significant when it comes to this area of safety, sometimes incorrectly referred to as the ‘manual handling act’. This dedicated piece of legislation is designed to help employers and employees manage, control and ultimately reduce the risk of injuries that might come about from poor manual handling practice. One of the most important elements of the legislation is that, when it came into force in 1993, it placed a requirement on employers to take action in respect of manual handling and ensured that they had a responsibility to their employees.
